Computer Aided Design and Drafting Technologist (Experienced)

Livermore, CA

We are seeking a Computer Aided Design and Drafting Technologist

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Create and modify three\-dimensional models and detailed drawings using sketches, layouts, or notes provided by engineering\.

+ Design components or portions of systems and modify existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations\.

+ Gather information, conduct studies, perform calculations, and prepare original rough layouts and sketches to present proposed designs; may consult with engineers to discuss and interpret design concepts and determine requirements of detailed working drawings\.

+ Use Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing \(GD&T\) to ensure fit form and function\.

+ Utilize three\-dimensional computer\-aided design \(CAD\) software to perform mass property calculations and tolerance and interference analyses\.


+ Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent technical discipline; four years of directly relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree\.

+ Three years related experience\.

+ Experience using solid modeling application software\.

+ Active and ability to maintain DOE Q\-level security clearance


+ Understanding of fundamental design principles that apply to product design and manufacturing\.

+ Experience using Pro/ENGINEER solid modeling application software\.

+ Experience in system, subsystem, or component design\.

+ Experience in manufacturing and/or inspection, as it applies to product drawing definition\.

+ Understanding the fundamentals of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing\.

+ Demonstrated excellent organizational skills\.

+ Excellent interpersonal skills\.

+ Proven record of demonstrating initiative and getting results\.

+ Demonstrated communication skills, both oral and written\.

+ Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products

Department Description:

Department 02274 is charged with the mechanical product design engineering in support of critical SNL/CA Nuclear Weapon mission spaces\. Complementing the mechanical design engineering services provided, department 02274 owns and manages California site Plastics Additive Manufacturing capabilities, enabling an agile product prototyping and development\. Design engineers from department 02274 work collaboratively with peers from the SNL/CA Stockpile Weapon Systems, Development Weapon Systems, Critical Subsystems, and Sandia Strategic Partnership programs in providing state of the art mechanical design definitions ready for the follow on prototyping, technology maturation, qualification, and release stages\. Applications of future product design technologies such as Model Based design engineering, advanced design visualization, amongst others are also actively being studied\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance to start\.

Position requires an active Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance or active clearance with another US government agency, e\.g\., DOD, to be considered for this position\.
