We are searching for a Mechanical Engineering Intern with at least 2 years of course study to support projects in 2017 for the Commercial Engineering Controls Systems Department in Charlotte, NC. The role will be responsible for developing control system requirements, real time controls simulation models for various HVAC equipment The assignment will be during the summer for 3-4 months.


  • Develop performance and reliability requirements for control system for HVAC equipment
  • Work with System Engineers to develop system requirements
  • Integration of plant models from multiple HVAC domains to enable software verification
  • Work with V&V engineers to develop test plans
  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required

  • Understanding of Control Systems Theory
  • Matlab/Simulink
  • Knowledge of at least one programming language: C/C++/Java/C#
  • Under minimal supervision, performs varied and moderately complex tasks
  • Resolves most questions and problems, and refers only the most complex issues to higher levels

Preferred skills:

  • Understanding of thermodynamics and turbo-machinery
  • Hands-on experience in developing controllers for mechatronic systems (e.g. home appliances, robots, RC cars and helicopters, access doors, fluid tanks, air-conditioners)

Education: Candidate should be working on a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Engineering with coursework in Control Systems) and have completed at least 2 years of coursework.
