The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Wichita State University, seeks a visionary leader as the Department Chair. The Department Chair is expected to advance the education and research initiatives of the department and represent the department to the academic community, alumni, and industry. The Department Chair will promote diversity within the department and provide avenues for faculty and student development.

The new Chair will have the opportunity work with the faculty, students, and staff to develop a shared vision to advance the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department based on its strategic plan. The plan calls for programs to enhance the research productivity in the department, increase enrollment in all major areas with the focus on high quality graduate students, structure the department that aligns with the growth and the needs of the department, enhance the diversity of the department to reflect the evolving diversity of the society, and strengthen the multidisciplinary opportunities at the department level.


The Department, College, University and city

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science currently serves more than 700 undergraduate students and 200 graduate students. The department offers BS degrees (ABET accredited) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Computer Science, MS degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Computer Networking and a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. The department houses several research labs and groups including the Bio-inspired Robotics and Control Lab, Center for Energy Studies, Computer Architecture and Parallel Programming Lab (CAPPLab), Control Systems Group, Machine Learning Lab, Software Engineering Research Lab (SERL), Wireless Research and Development Group (WiReD), Wireless, Networking, and Systems group (WiNeS) and the Security, Privacy, Trust and Ethics in Computing (SPriTE) Research Lab. The department faculty are involved in research that has been funded by NSF, NASA, PSERC, Department of Energy, FAA, US Army Office, US Navy and US Air Force. Wichita State University’s College of Engineering hosts some of the country’s best research facilities and currently houses five departments, namely Aerospace Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Industrial Systems and Manufacturing Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering, which provide plenty of opportunity for multi-disciplinary research and collaboration. Required Qualifications: Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field and must be qualified for a tenured faculty position at the Professor level. Progressing Associate Professors whose work would merit promotion to Professor are also encouraged to apply. Candidates must have a strong scholarly research and funding record, record of effective teaching with willingness to accommodate different learning styles, a demonstrated record of leadership, management, and strong communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates having experience with industry collaboration, interdisciplinary education and research, faculty and/or staff professional development activities would be given preference. Evidence to show commitment to embrace the synergy of CS, CE, CN, and EE and lead initiatives that could advance this mission is desired.
