In Boston Scientific Neuromodulation we deliver advanced systems that are used to treat neurological conditions, including implantable products that stimulate the brain and spinal cord. Our Valencia site is the Neuromodulation Divisional Headquarters, where we design and develop our therapy leading implantable neuro-stimulation systems. These systems include spinal cord stimulators for the treatment of pain and deep brain stimulators for movement disorders (Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and dystonia). About the role:

Boston Scientific Neuromodulation is currently seeking an exceptional Data Science and Biostatistics Leader to join our winning team.  Lead the data science and biostatistics functions across the Neuromodulation global franchises (Pain Management and Deep Brain Stimulation). Responsible for driving growth and expanding capabilities of the data science team as well as managing biostatisticians who carry out statistical design and analysis activities.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Provides leadership and direction to drive the continued growth of data science competency and contributions in close partnership with IT, Digital Health Initiatives and R&D.  Identifies opportunities for innovation by applying data science and analytic methodologies, including machine learning and artificial intelligence, to research and business challenges.
  • Interacts with executive level management, regulatory agencies, clinicians and vendors, and coordinates across the organization, including Marketing, HE&R (Health Economics and Reimbursement), Regulatory and Legal, to achieve department and company goals.
  • Supports the broader Neuromodulation organization as the top-level data science and statistics subject matter expert, including providing advice to Sr. Management, analytical expertise to other departments, and managing statistical review in support of business needs.
  • Provides strategic direction to the data science and biostatistics teams in the application of statistics, machine learning and AI to achieve endpoints meeting regulatory, business, and scientific requirements.
  • Ensures timely and accurate reporting of clinical data to regulatory agencies throughout clinical study life cycle with close cross-functional collaboration.
  • Stays abreast of best practices, industry standards, and regulatory requirements pertaining to data science tools and technology, statistical methodology, study design, collection of clinical data, and its reporting and dissemination.
  • Makes and executes operational decisions with a strategic perspective.
  • Demonstrates effective change leadership.
  • Recruits, coaches and develops organizational talent.

What we’re looking for:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Degree – M.S. or Ph.D. in (bio) statistics, applied statistics, applied mathematics, or other quantitative field.
  • Proven track record of delivering analytic solutions to solve complex problems using a data-driven approach and technical innovation. Demonstrated success in interpreting analytic output and providing strategic recommendations.
  • Excellent analytical skills.  Expertise in statistical and data science principles and methods and the ability to instruct others in these areas.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of an organization.
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience in the design, execution, and use of a wide array of data analysis techniques and tools in designing solutions, plus 8+ years’ experience managing team-based projects and working in a cross-functional product development setting.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements governing clinical trials.
  • Up to 20% domestic and international travel required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of one or more of Python, R, SAS, or Apache Spark.
