The Early Career Development Program (ECDP) is part of Covanta’s strategy to hire and develop a high performing, diverse talent pool. The ECDP is a three-year program in which participants will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience and receive wide exposure to Covanta’s different business functions through a coordinated rotation among a variety of assignments, both within and outside their primary department.  Candidates for the ECDP are required to have a bachelor’s degree and zero to three years’ of relevant experience by the hire date. For a list of additional qualifications, please refer to the Position Requirements section below.  ECDP candidates interested in being considered for multiple ECDP positions should submit a separate application for each requisition and include a cover letter describing how the ECDP program fits with their career goals.


The ECDP hire for the Sustainable Solutions team will represent the company’s interest at the project level within the Sustainable Solutions business unit to assure maximum profitability and return on investment including participation in the schedule and budget processes. 


Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Maintain thorough awareness of technical, commercial and financial issues related to assigned projects.
  • Assure timely reporting of performance results by project personnel to corporate groups.
  • Participate in internal review process to report on the current and forecast performance of asset(s).
  • Provide support to project staff if needed to resolve appropriate project, regulatory, contractual or commercial issues.
  • Assure awareness of regional operations personnel of any project level problem that may affect project performance.
  • Participate in project & customer meetings, conferences and discussions to assure active involvement in the asset's affairs.
  • Maximizing the value of an asset.
  • Assist in organizing and implementing a business plan that meets the objectives of the project(s) structure and contracts.
  • Optimizing all elements of the asset with the appropriate risk profile.
  • Monitoring and analyzing the key performance indicators of the project and reporting on them. 


Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Engineering or related field(s) from an accredited university/ college

Experience:

  • 0-3 years of relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Skilled in negotiating an administering contracts and agreements as well as budget preparation.
  • Knowledge of energy assets, operational requirements, safety and compliance requirements a plus
  • Effective management skills, including labor relations, planning, budgeting and financial assessment
  • Proficient with MS Office suite
  • Knowledge of MS Projects is a plus
  • Demonstrated proficiency with technical writing
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks
  • Attention to detail

  • Willing and able to travel or relocate, as needed.
  • Willing and able to do shift work, which may primarily occur during an outage or an execution of a growth project
