Facilities Technologist (Experienced)

The facilities technologist is responsible for furthering Sandias initiative to more efficiently and effectively utilize space\. The facilities technologist will work with Strategic Planners to develop and scope space management options, recommendations, and solutions that increase space utilization\. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Generate or redesign existing office furniture layouts that consider spatial standards, staff interactions, traffic flow, and security restrictions\.

Produce clear floor plan layouts that balance the needs of the customer, manager, and site\. Negotiate customer requirements and limitations\.

Perform field measures, research furniture specifications, conduct product research, produce installation drawings, and interface with the broader Facilities department\.

Understand all building systems to ensure that HVAC, electrical and communication infrastructure, and physical layout will meet customer needs and expectations\.

Communicate and coordinate space needs, requests and modifications with building operations teams\.

Develop the scope and budget, and authorize space modifications; coordinate and oversee the project execution with Facilities Express and contractors\.


3 years of experience in office layout interior design, or equivalent combination of education and experience\.

Understand all building system capacities and how that may impact occupancy\.

Experience with interior design spatial analysis of furniture and office layouts\.

Demonstrated ability to develop strategies to meet site space goals\.

Knowledge of legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting facility maintenance and operations\.

Ability to produce schematics and architectural drawings, including design details and specifications\.


Facilities project execution experience desired\.

Experience implementing facility and operational policies, practices, and procedures\.

Familiarity with Sandias preferred furniture vendors\.

Experience of familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, CET Designer, SketchUp, or other office planning software\.

Department Description:

The Partnership and Planning Department supports the mission by establishing long range planning & investment strategies and implementation plans\. The team develops and maintains effective strategic customer partnerships and integrates Facilities & Infrastructure plans into the investment and planning strategies\. The team also provides space management, condition, and energy assessments of the facilities and site infrastructure\. The Facility Management Coordinators \(FMC\) provides liaison between line organizations and mission support functions\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\.
