We are seeking a Intern \- Data Analysis Researcher R&D Graduate Summer

The Extreme\-Scale Data Science & Analytics Department at Sandia/California is seeking graduate student interns to participate in research and development in the field of data analysis for physics, science, and engineering applications\. The departments research covers a broad set of techniques, including Bayesian inference, reduced order modeling, compression, uncertainty quantification, validation and verification, feature extraction, and machine learning\. Our results are published in leading technical journals and conferences, and much of our software is freely available to the research community\. Interns will help to advance projects directed by Principle and Senior researchers, conducting innovative research, developing open\-source software, and communicating their research through written reports and oral presentations\.


You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Earned bachelor's degree

+ Currently attending and enrolled full time \(or scheduled to graduate in the spring\) in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program

+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.0/4\.0

+ Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer

+ Actively pursuing an advanced degree \(M\.S\. or Ph\.D\.\) in computer science, mathematics, statistics, engineering, or a related area

+ Ability to work in a collaborative research environment

+ Evidence of relevant expertise in the form of class work, technical publications, presentations, software, and/or knowledge of applications

+ Software development competence in C\+\+, C, Java, Python, MATLAB, or a related language

+ Strong written\- and oral\-communication skills

+ To be eligible for this position, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States of America\. Sandia will not sponsor work authorization for this position

\(1\) Expertise in one or more of the following areas: applied mathematics, uncertainty quantification, reduced order modeling, feature identification techniques, machine learning, compression, Bayesian inference; \(2\) high\-performance, distributed, or parallel computing experience; and \(3\) a background in solving practical problems in science and engineering that involve encounters with real\-world data\.

Department Description:

The Extreme\-Scale Data Science & Analytics Department provides strong expertise in data science and analytics, supporting Sandia's physical sciences and engineering mission partners by enabling the extraction of critical insights from extreme\-scale observations, simulations and experiments\. Our capabilities combine recent advances in applied mathematics and computer science, with expertise in UQ, reduced order modeling, and feature identification techniques\. These capabilities will complement and leverage existing research in other Sandia departments\.

Security Clearance:

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted security clearance\.

Sandia will conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications\. Further, employees in New Mexico must pass a U\.S\. Air Force background screen for access to the work site\. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause access to be denied or terminated, rendering the inability to perform the duties assigned and resulting in termination of employment\.
