Intern - Software Simulation and Data Processing R&D Undergrad Summer

We are seeking an Intern Summer \- R&D Undergrad



This posting is seeking students to perform undergraduate level work within research, science, development, and engineering environments who are currently studying towards B\.S\. degrees in numerous STEM fields including yet not limited to electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, mathematics, and physics\.



On any given day, you may be called on to:



+ Work on vibrant motivated R&D teams

+ Join existing project teams in designing, developing, implementing, testing, and delivering advanced solutions for national security needs

+ Work in a collaborative and learning environment and assume significant responsibilities for assisting in the development of solutions to challenging technical problems

+ Be proactive in asking questions, learning, and being mentored by more experienced staff



Required:



You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:



+ Currently attending and enrolled full time \(or scheduled to graduate in the spring\) in an accredited undergraduate program

+ Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major

+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.0/4\.0

+ Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer

+ U\.S\. citizenship

Desired:



+ Considered at least a junior by credit completions of your schools program

+ Expressed desire to obtain a graduate level degree

+ If completing senior year prior to Summer 2018, then actively planning to continue into an engineering, science, or mathematics graduate program in Fall 2018

+ A prior internship relevant in your degree or field

+ Skills and experiences working in teams

+ Skills and experiences demonstrating leadership skills within team settings

+ Demonstrated ability to develop and present ideas to results in both oral and written forms

+ Skills and experiences with common tools, techniques, software, and hardware as appropriate and applicable for your degree or field



Department Description:



The Next Generation Software Simulation and Data Processing department performs research and development to advance flexible, extensible, and robust large\-scale software applications for remote sensing system\-level simulation as well as real\-time remote sensing ground station data processing that transform data to knowledge enabling our customers to take action with confidence\.

Security Clearance:



This position does not currently require a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted security clearance\.



Sandia will conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications\. Further, employees in New Mexico must pass a U\.S\. Air Force background screen for access to the work site\. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause access to be denied or terminated, rendering the inability to perform the duties assigned and resulting in termination of employment\.



If hired without a clearance, and one subsequently becomes required or you bid on positions that require a DOE\-granted security clearance, a pre\-processing background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications may be conducted prior to a required federal background investigation\. Applicants for DOE\-granted security clearances must be U\.S\. citizens and be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate DOE security clearance as required for the position\.
