In a joint call, the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU) Cottbus-Senftenberg and IHP - Innovations for High Performance Microelectronics in Frankfurt (Oder) invite applications for a

                                                              Professorship (W3)
                                                        Semiconductor Technology

with a research-oriented focus simultaneously with the

                Directorship of IHP - Innovations for High Performance Microelectronics
                                         in the position as Scientific Director (m/f)

commencing on September 24th, 2019. IHP is an institute of the Leibniz association and successfully conducts research and development of silicon-based systems, highest-frequency circuits and technologies including new materials in national and international competition. It develops innovative solutions in fields of application such as wireless and broadband communication, gigabit WLAN, wireless sensor networks, wireless security systems, fibre optic communication, security, medical technology, industry 4.0, mobility and aerospace. It has a pilot line for technological developments and the preparation of highest-frequency circuits with 0.13/0.25 μm-BiCMOS technologies. The pilot line is part of a 1000m² class 1 clean room. IHP successfully cooperates with multiple regional, national and international partners in industry and research (e.g., joint labs with universities) and participates in many EU projects, partly as a coordinator. IHP is a member of the BMBF-funded cross-location research cooperation »Research Fab Microelectronics Germany«.

BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg is as a research-intensive university with strong basic and application orientation. It is defined by the classical characteristics of a technical university.

The profile-formed research fields at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg are:

  • Biotechnology, Environment und Health
  • Cognitive and Dependable Cyber Physical Systems


The successful candidate is a personality with

  • excellent expertise in at least one of the following three areas of research

              - semiconductor technology
              - circuit technology
              - highest-frequency technology

          as well as relevant experience

              - from materials to system applications,

  • high scientific-technical reputation (also international), very well embedded in regional, national and international networks,
  • comprehensive executive experience with excellent competencies in scientific management,
  • several years of leadership experience,
  • relevant experience with third-party funded projects or significant budget responsibilities,
  • documented experience in project acquisition and project leadership of national and international R&D projects.

Please refer to §§ 41 paragraph 1 No 1 – 4a and 43 BbgHG for further prerequisites and conditions of employment. Apart from these and the compliance with the general regulatory requirements, applicants are also expected to demonstrate

  • very good knowledge of both German and English,
  • exceptional social and communication skills.

The scientific director of IHP in Frankfurt (Oder) with around 300 employees and an overall budget of currently about 50 million € represents and leads the institute as a spokesperson of the executive management together with the administrative director. The executive management of IHP GmbH conducts the institute’s business and represents the corporation judicially and extrajudicially in all corporate affairs according to the articles of association.

The focus areas in teaching associated with the professorship are semiconductor technology and special fields of circuit technology. Teaching responsibilities account for two hours per week during each semester.

Further duties result of § 42 BbgHG in conjunction with § 3 BbgHG.
The employment of the scientific director of IHP follows the articles of association for five years; a reappointment is allowed and generally envisaged.
