The Manager of IT Client Architecture designs and implements robust and scalable solutions to establish and maintain desktop hardware and software standards across all corporate client machines. Develops and implements infrastructure solutions in support of the desktop environment that provides value-added services and enables Covanta to meet industry-best-practices for management and security (e.g., virtualization solutions, anti-virus, personal firewalls). Provides Tier 3 client engineering support for desktop software deployments. Directly responsible for desktop solutions and products including hardware standards for desktops, laptops and mobile devices such as phones and tablets, operating systems, core builds and standard shrink-wrapped software such as Microsoft Office. Plans and coordinates activities of Managed Service Provider’s desktop engineering group.

Duties / Responsibilities-

  • Develops technology roadmaps and lifecycles for all desktop/mobile solutions and systems
  • Develops technical standards and ensures compliance with existing standards
  • Coordinates with enterprise architects and external service providers to evaluate and recommend new desktop/mobile technologies and service offerings
  • Coordinates with enterprise architects and business relationship managers to ensure existing and new desktop/mobile services align to roadmaps and to understand the impact on the organization
  • Liaises with external providers to resolve any issues in the functionality and interoperability of desktop/mobile applications, infrastructure, and services.
  • Manages service provider(s) and vendor relationship(s)
  • Manages product and services contract renewals
  • Manages operational and capital budget for desktop/mobile products, services and activities
  • Manages selected internal technologies not transitioned to service provider
  • Ensures service levels for desktop/mobile incident management and project support are met or exceeded
  • Ensures existing technical documentation is kept up to date
  • Creates technical documentation for new solutions
  • Maintains strong communications with and reports weekly on status of all desktop/mobile initiatives to IT leadership
  • Plans, conducts and oversees the technical aspects of projects; coordinates the efforts of technical support staff in the performance of assigned projects; provides leadership and work guidance to less experienced personnel.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Candidate should possess:

  • Expert in Microsoft desktop operating systems and Microsoft productivity tools
  • Expert in technologies required to deploy, manage and maintain a consistent secure client computing environment
  • Experience developing, deploying and maintaining mobile computing capabilities
  • Experience in desktop virtualization both locally and in the cloud (AWS/Azure)
  • Competent in developing metrics and measures to reflect maturity and efficiency of computing environment
  • BYOD experience and iOS experience a plus
  • Competent in new technology evaluation and should be able to support technical change management
  • Ability to perform functional requirements analysis and business process analysis
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible positions in client engineering and architecture
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working across both IT and business organizations
  • Exceptional organization skills with the ability to work on multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in a process driven work environment as a self-starter


  • B.S. (Business, Computer Science, Engineering Management) or equivalent work experience/certifications in related discipline

 Professional Skills:

  • Experience building technology plans and roadmaps
  • Experience designing, integrating, and managing complex infrastructure solutions
  • Comprehensive knowledge of hardware, software, application, and systems engineering
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft client software and management technologies
  • University degree in fields related to computer science or engineering
  • Working knowledge of the ITIL framework and Incident Management best practices
  • Working knowledge of SDLC processes and project management best practices
  • VDI experience and AirWatch experience desired but not required
