Description: Description About the Position: The Manager Quality Inspections is responsible for leading National Grid’s Material & Equipment Quality Improvement Program (MEQIP) and Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) Programs enterprise wide to meet and exceed all mandated safety, reliability, regulatory compliance requirements and quality standards.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Accountable to the Director, Gas Materials & Standards with primary responsibility for directing and managing the activities of the MEQIP / NDE staff related to our Quality Inspection Programs. Manage a diverse group of employees with concern for staffing, training, professional competence, productivity, and performance appraisal to ensure the department is adequately staffed, operates efficiently, and can adapt to changing requirements. Co-ordinate with Internal and External Customers, Contractors and Vendors to build working relationships and manage them to meet established policies and processes. Lead the creation of analytics and reporting to identify systemic operating, process, or technological deficiencies within the Department. Develop and implement solutions that address systemic problems impacting productivity and optimal operating. Exercise independent judgment in managing daily operations and resolving issues while remaining accountable for all actions to next-level management. Must be able to work in a multi-faceted, process centric, high performance team environment with an understanding of how individual responsibilities impact the larger organization accountabilities. Accountable for auditing NDE contractors and performing work in the field during emergency.
Qualifications Knowledge & Experience Required: Bachelors Degree in Engineering or equivalent. Minimum 15 years experience in gas operations and supervision or engineering in lieu of degree. Requires ASNT Level 3 or 2 certfifications in NDE methods (RT/UT/MT/PT) Requires AWS CWI certification Demonstrates the ability to apply and modify complex theories and learned concepts appropriately. Requires broad technical knowledge of Gas Materials Standards, federal and state regulations, work methods, including welding, NDE Standards, equipment and gas field operations. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills including influencing change and management of staff. Lets people affected by a decision know what’s happening and is able to clearly articulate reasons for a decision. Knowledge and understanding of issues affecting the industry. Demonstrates the ability to anticipate obstacles and think ahead about next steps. Knowledge of safety policy and potential hazards of the gas distribution network. Knowledge of gas materials and the ramifications of poor quality affecting the gas business. Significant exposure to large scale process improvement efforts. Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other MS Office applications. Demonstrated proficiency in managing a team, communicating expectations, and delegating responsibilities with the ability to build effective working relationships. Experience in investigating issues using various amounts of data and working with multiple tools to define root causes. Able to assess business issues, define the process, and bring unique solutions to business problems.
