Material Science R&D Technologist (Experienced)

Albuquerque, NM

The neutron generator enterprise utilizes ceramics, metals, polymers and thin films to make devices that operate at the limits of materials performance\. Materials related issues can limit the performance of existing devices, and must be fully understood before implementing new designs\. Therefore, the Analytical Technologies Department is seeking high performing individuals with a strong educational background in Materials Science or closely related fields\. While the central mission of the department is to provide materials characterization capabilities for the Neutron Generator Enterprise, the research environment is dynamic with projects spanning processing, joining, mechanical, chemical and electrical testing of materials, and multi\-material systems\.

The successful Engineering Support Technologist candidate will apply integrated technical judgment and scientific method to recognize and formulate problems, to collect data through observation and experimentation, and to formulate and test hypotheses\-\-to anticipate, innovate, and deliver solutions to Sandia National Laboratories missions\. \. On a daily basis, you will operate one of the several characterization tools in our labs, collect and analyze data on materials systems of interest, interpret and present results in support of routine production, problem solving, or future design activities at Sandia\. Training on use and operations will be provided by highly qualified staff or external classes, and you will work closely with staff in the initial phases\. As you learn about the materials, products and the mission, your role and impact will grow, and you may be assigned independent projects\. If you have a passion for materials science, and want to put your education to good use, this is the job for you\.
