GW’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) provides leading edge programs in electrical and computer engineering in order to provide leadership in a rapidly evolving global information society in the service of humanity and to advance the state of knowledge in our disciplines by actively pursuing scholarly research for publication and dissemination.

Post-Doctoral Scientist will report directly to the Principal Investigator (PI), and will assist with nanophotonics, opto-electronics, plasmonics, and neuromorphic computing research.

Responsibilities Include:

Conduct research in opto-electronics, devices, nanophotonics, and plasmonics.
Build and improve optical and opto-electronic measurement setup(s).

Design and execute clean room and/or tape-out processes (support for the former is possible).

Obtain and analyze experimental and theoretical data.

Introduce new device architectures and research directions in nanophotonics, opto-electronics, RF-analogue photonics, Silicon Hybrid photonics and plasmonics, analogue and neuromorphic computing.

Develop theories and novel concepts on nanophotonic device performance with focus on electro-optic and electro-absorptive modulation towards atto-joule efficient and 10-100+GHz fast performance metrics. 

Conduct numerical simulations.

Support drafting and responding to scientific publications, funding proposals, and reports.

Share and discuss research progress both internally and externally with collaborators.

Advise and train students in their research, equipment use and understanding details-at-hand.

Present scientific findings at GWU, conferences, and workshops.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.

 

Desired Qualifications:

Understanding of Silicon-photonics and foundry tape-outs. Hybrid Silicon photonics expertise preferred.

Deep understanding in opto-electronic devices with focus on electro-optic modulation.

Solid background in solid-state physics, photonics, and plasmonics.

Detailed experience in electro-optic device characterization to include: high-speed, bit-error-rate-testing, extinction ratio, insertion loss, cavity resonances, silicon photonics device testing, fiber-to-chip coupling.

Solid understanding of digital and analogue data-processing, signal-to-noise, bit-error-testing, and other pertinent RF-engineering required for device test.

Understanding of analogue and neuromorphic computing preferred.

Optical non-linear optics understanding and test skills are a plus.

High-level understanding and skills in clean room and/or tape-out processes.

Qualified in drafting and submitting scientific manuscripts including data- and image processing skills.

Efficient collaborator and student mentorship qualities.
