Postdoctoral Appointee - Fermentation Process Engineer

Livermore, CA

We seek postdoctoral appointees to develop solutions to important national security problems, particularly in the arena of sustainable production of biobased commodities from biomass feedstocks\. Our objective is to renewably produce petroleum displacing products guided by an underlying understanding of key carbon lifecycle and technoeconomic criteria, to create game\-changing solutions\. In particular, we are developing means for bioconversion of a variety of multi\-substrate feedstocks, including residues from the starch ethanol process and whole algae biomass\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Be responsible for bench\-scale fermentation process development utilizing newly developed biocatalysts and consortia leading to scale\-up;

+ Be part of an interdisciplinary team that includes chemists, metabolic engineers, and biomass specialists at both the staff and postdoctoral level, conducting fundamental and applied research using both experimental and computational tools\.

+ PhD in Chemical or Biochemical Engineering, or related field with a strong fermentation process development emphasis during the thesis work;

+ Demonstrated ability to identify and implement solutions at the intersections of fields such as chemistry and biology;

+ Significant experience in R&D related to biomass processing and sustainable products;

+ A record of publications in peer\-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conferences\.
