The EPO Project Organization at United Technologies Aerospace Systems – Engine and Environmental Control Systems is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to lead military cost reduction initiatives for the Joint Strike Fighter SDE (Supplier Designed Equipment) suite of controls & accessories.Job responsibilities require an energetic and dedicated individual to lead initiatives with a multidisciplinary team and to drive execution of worthwhile cost reduction projects for both Mechanical & Electrical Buy Components.

The candidate will be responsible for the following activities:

- Facilitate VE events at suppliers. Track ideas and corresponding actions that result.

- Work with product technical expertise to formulate should-cost estimates for ideas

- Develop business cases that will determine the worthwhile nature of ideas/projects to pursue

- Project savings to the business based on favorable business cases

- Work with IPT leads to estimate and solidify manpower for favorable business cases

- Work with Program Office to secure funding for worthwhile projects to kick off for cost reduction

- Work with component IPTs to kick-off and execute cost reduction projects

- Communicate cost reduction project status to engineering leadership and the program office

- Maintain a costed BOM for each military SDE platform shipset


Successful candidate will have good communications skills, eager and capable of being held accountable for achievement of business objectives, and who understands and recognizes the importance of holding others accountable for their actions. The candidate should practice the principles of time management and be able to manage cross-disciplined personnel on multiple projects. Applicants should demonstrate a good work ethic and be committed to the success of the business. Candidate will be highly adaptable and will inspire confidence in their team by maintaining a positive attitude while driving accountability and urgency.

  • 7+ years of project engineering/related experience required
  • Excellent oral and written skills are necessary along with the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly across all levels of the organization
  • Leadership experience with leading a cross-disciplined/multifunctional team
  • Familiarity with mechanical & electrical engine controls & accessories
  • Familiarity with VA/VE principles a plus
  • Experience with manufacturing processes and lean manufacturing a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute technical and business proposals
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Project & Excel


B.S. in a relevant Engineering Discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, etc.) required
