Do you like learning new things?  Come join a team of people building experiments in quantum systems research.  Georgia Tech Research Institute (http://www.gtri.gatech.edu) seeks computer scientists for full-time research faculty positions within its CIPHER lab.


Develop software that operates cutting edge physics lab experiments.  The Quantum Systems Group (http://www.quantum.gatech.edu) at GTRI designs and hosts world class experiments in ion trapping and atom-based quantum sensor development.  These experimental systems need reliable and stable toolsets to make them run well; so GTRI needs exceptional computer scientists to help keep our quantum device experiments best-in-class.

This position will require Python software engineering skills.  Persons in this position will be tasked to modify a large research-grade python code, enhancing it in response to end user requirements, and improving code maturity.  Additionally, persons in this position will support development of software for lab new equipment as needed.

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.

Research Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.


  • Must possess extensive experience with object oriented software development and software engineering methodologies.
  • Must have experience developing in Python (3.0 preferred).
  • Must work well in a team environment that includes end users.
  • Must be a US citizen.


Languages (Python, C++, C, Java, etc.) and libraries (PyQt, GUI development).

Software engineering tools (git, JIRA, Stash) and operating systems (Windows, Linux).

Scientific tool development (Python using numpy, scipy, and matplotlib).

Experience with a physics lab environment.  Experience developing hardware lab equipment software drivers using Python, GPIB programming, communication protocols (TCP/IP) stack, client/server networking, FGPAs, VHDL, Igor, and Igor Script.
