R&D Mathematics Algorithm Developer (Early/Mid-Career)

We are seeking an R&D Mathematics Professional to participate in the full spectrum of project activities including developing technology roadmaps, planning and developing new program proposals, researching, devising and implementing advanced algorithms tailored for specific applications, cooperating with team\-members to produce joint deliverables, leading a technical team, developing and delivering software and hardware to end customers, writing final reports, and publishing conference and journal papers\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Apply integrated technical judgment\-\-which requires using the scientific method to recognize and formulate problems, to collect data through observation and experimentation, and to formulate and test hypotheses\-\-to anticipate, innovate, and deliver solutions to Sandia National Laboratories missions\.

+ Work in the fundamentals of science and engineering while applying a deep understanding of engineering and scientific principles\.

+ Create and applies scientific theories and laws and engineering methods used within scientific and engineering disciplines to develop or demonstrate new designs, concepts, materials, machines, products, processes, or systems\.

+ Use physical and computational simulation, analysis, and evaluation as inherent activities of development\.

+ Plan, conduct, and execute Sandia's science and engineering programs within the spectrum of fundamental research, development, or demonstration\.

+ Participate in the development and application of computational capabilities to solve problems in science and engineering\.

+ Apply methods and techniques that merge disciplines in science and engineering with computer science\.

+ Include the research, development, deployment and in\-depth technical support of general scientific and engineering application software and related tools\.


+ Master's degree in in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics, or a similar field\.

+ Undergraduate degree in STEM\.

+ Experience in the C programming language\.

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-level security clearance\.


+ Knowledge and experience in other programming languages such as MATLAB and C\+\+\.

+ Be familiar with image and signal processing algorithms, machine learning implementations, information theory, and real\-time implementation of algorithms\.

+ Experience with radar phenomenology, applied statistics and mathematics, and the Linux operating system\.

+ Ability to perform rigorous analysis with large volumes of sensor data\. Occasional travel may be required for this position\.

Department Description:

The Sensor Exploitation Applications Department develops and implements pattern recognition approaches called Automatic Target Recognition \(ATR\) algorithms that detect, identify, and classify objects of interest\. Department 5448 applies these techniques to a variety of data sources, including Synthetic Aperture Radar \(SAR\) imagery, High Range Resolution \(HRR\) radar, optical and long\-wave Infrared imagery, and acoustic data\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
