R&D Mechanical Shock Test Technologist (Experienced)

Albuquerque, NM

We are seeking a technologist to perform experimental activities and laboratory operations in the Mechanical Shock Test Laboratory\. In this position you will have an active role in the development and execution of a wide array of shock experiments to support a range of customers from across the laboratory\. Breadth of activities will span from high\-quality shock testing of components to innovative mechanical shock testing research experiments\. For all work, rigorous implementation of work planning and control processes are expected to assure safe, secure, and high\-quality operations\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Lead or support shock experiments

+ Lead in identification and implementation of technical laboratory improvements

+ Maintain performance of shock test equipment

+ Maintain ES&H documentation and operational procedures

+ Manage equipment calibration


+ Associates or Bachelors degree in a technical field or 2 years of equivalent work experience

+ Experience with basic laboratory test equipment, including data acquisition equipment, and various instrumentation and test set up

+ Experience in maintaining laboratory test documentation, including calibration controlled equipment

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-clearance


+ Experience with laboratory test equipment including; mechanical shock test techniques and equipment, drop tables and pyro shock simulation techniques \(resonant plates and beams\)

+ Knowledge of basic level of structural dynamics, including mode shapes, resonant frequencies, and shock data interpretation

+ Experience with ES&H documentation processes, including familiarity with updated Work Planning & Controls processes

+ Experience with high consequence safety operations, including explosive and radioactive related processes

+ Active DOE Q clearance

The Experimental Solid Mechanics Department 1528 is part of the Engineering Sciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories\. Our center is the steward of engineering mechanics for Sandia and we are dedicated to solving our customers most pressing and important national security problems\. Our department specializes in experimental technologies related to structural mechanics and mechanics of materials\. With our state of the art experimental technologies, technical expertise, and analytical capabilities in sister departments, we provide integrated customer solutions in the following areas: mechanical characterization of materials, components, and structures in normal or abnormal environments, development and application of state\-of\-the\-art experimental and diagnostic techniques for scientific and mission impacts, and integration of analytical, computational, and experimental efforts for engineering solutions to national security problems\. Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\.
