RD Electronics Technologist - Magnetic & Frequency (Experienced)

A position exists for a person who can perform electrical testing and problem solving in a team\-oriented atmosphere in the Magnetic and Frequency Devices Department as an electronics technologist\. An emphasis will be placed on performing supporting circuit board layout, prototype fabrication for magnetic components\. Duties include:

Fabrication and assembly of mechanical and electromechanical systems\.

Perform specialized testing of magnetic devices including high voltage testing, use of oscilloscopes, power supplies, function generators and other electrical test gear\.

Work with staff members to design test methods for magnetic components\.

Use schematic capture and circuit board layout software to do electronic board design\.

Use Excel and other spreadsheet tools to summarize results and perform data analysis\.

Create documentation for test and related design definition and reports\.

Oversee and ensure work is performed per documented test plans\.

Support Magnetics Product Realization Team in qualification activities\.

Adherence to safety, process controls, and quality principles is essential to the success of our department\.

Travel to US\-based suppliers on a regular basis \(10\-30% yearly\)\.


+ Associates degree or higher in electronics or closely related field plus three or more years of relevant experience\.

+ Experience using electronics equipment \(oscilloscopes, power supplies, function generators and various meters\)\.

+ Experience in electronics and electronics assembly including testing and troubleshooting\.

+ Able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q\- level security clearance\.


+ Ability to fabricate and build electromechanical systems including use of hand tools\.

+ Experience using or ability to learn schematic capture and circuit board layout software\.

+ Experience with high voltage testing\.

+ Knowledge of pulsed power or switch mode power supply circuits\.

+ Transformer winding experience or willingness to learn\.

+ Skilled at interpersonal, oral, and written communication\.

+ LabView or other instrument control language skill\.

+ Knowledge of magnetic devices including transformers \(pulse, power, flyback, current viewing, isolation, trigger, push\-pull\), solenoid coils, inductors, coupled inductors, & stator windings\.

+ MS Excel working knowledge\.

+ Working knowledge of statistical data analysis\.

+ Strong desire to be involved in a team responsible for design and delivery of high reliability components\.

+ Active DOE Clearance

Department Description:

The Magnetic and Frequency Devices Department is responsible for the design, development, qualification, delivery, and surveillance of high reliability electronic products for NW and other National Security customers\. These custom products include magnetic devices \(inductors, transformers, solenoid coils, mag amp devices, baluns, coupled inductors\), quartz controlled RF clocks and oscillators, and JTA sensors \(accelerometers, gyroscopes, temperature, pressure\)\. The department uses the Realize Product Subsystem \(RPSS\) to realize Mark Quality \(QC\-1\) product that covers the complete product realization cycle of design, development, specification, qualification, procurement, delivery and stockpile support either through our partners at the Kansas City Plant \(KCP\) or via Sandia External Production program \(SEP\)\. We employ defect\-prevention strategies to gain an understanding of design margin during the development cycle\. The department's capabilities include the ability to address multiple challenging requirements related to meeting high reliability numbers over extremely long life, radiation tolerance, nuclear safety requirements, and size and weight restrictions\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
