Research Scientist: Image Processing of Medical Images   


Weill Cornell Medicine, Department of Radiology has a research scientist position available for engineers and scientists in its Dalio Institute of Cardiovascular Imaging. The institute is comprised of faculty, researchers and students from the fields of engineering and science, computer science, epidemiology, biology, cardiology, and radiology. You will work under the supervision of our director James K. Min, M.D. The research labs, overseen by Assistant Professors Bobak Mosadegh, Ph.D. and Simon Dunham, Ph.D., are working to develop technologies for diagnostic and therapeutic applications by leveraging their experience in 3D printing, stretchable electronics, nanotechnology, 3D cell culture, microfluidics, and soft robotics. This work is highly interdisciplinary involving close collaboration with other engineering groups and physician scientists.


Position Description

This specific position will be to help develop software that can help with co-registration of different image modalities and visualization of those images in 3D renderings and augmented reality displays. Furthermore, algorithms for detecting real-time positioning and orientation of medical devices within the medical images will be developed and also displayed within the 3D renderings. Previous experience in co-registration, medical image processing, automated image segmentation, and 3D renderings is required. Candidates with prior experience with cardiac imaging and/or processing cardiac images is not required but is recommended. Additional skills that will be useful, but not required, for the project are machine learning, catheter design, and 3D printing.


Minimum Requirements

A minimum of a B.S. in a related computer science and/or engineering fields, or proven equivalent experience. Competitive candidates will have a M.S. or Ph.D. in a related field.

Proven ability to work in a collaborative and professional manner, reflective of the Dalio ICI multidisciplinary culture.


This position is intended or candidates interested in conducting cutting-edge academic research but do not have plans to apply for independent faculty positions.
