RESPONSIBILITIES:

The ideal candidate will have experience in the design and development of residential gas furnaces. Strong knowledge of combustion systems, blower systems, control systems, and other related furnace components is important. The successor will be responsible for developing and ing gas furnace combustion technology to ensure compliance with regulatory emission requirements and equipment reliability targets. Additionally, s/he will serve as a technical expert and mentor to more junior engineers.

Further, interface with product development engineers, lab technicians, model makers and designers is necessary. The ideal candidate will collaborate with members from other functional groups such as marketing, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, suppliers, and advanced technology development.

The following responsibilities will be assigned in addition to ad hoc assignments as needed:

  • Effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with diverse audiences including but not limited to; junior engineers, cross functional team members, senior leaders, global suppliers, and external customers including service managers and technicians.
  • Contribute to the team or department by ing knowledge of one or more functional areas.
  • in depth knowledge of mechanical engineering

This role is a part of UTC Re-Empower Program which helps support talented and committed professionals as they rebuild their capabilities, enhance leadership skills, and continue their professional journey. Over the course of this 16-week program, experienced professionals will gain paid, on-the-job experience, have an opportunity to participate in sessions with leadership, develop personalized plans for success and receive coaching to guide their return to work experience. Upon completion of the program, based on performance, Re-Empower participants may have an opportunity to convert to a full-time role.

Cohort II of the UTC Re-Empower Program will run from March 12, 2018 – June 29, 2018.

LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Manages a complex component of a larger project or a complete project depending upon the scope of the business goal and impact
  • Works with minimal to no direct guidance or direction from others
  • Coaches and mentors junior engineers to help develop their technical ability and provide technical project guidance
  • Pursues personal learning and development to promote continuous innovation, improvement and advancement within the function and business

Qualification:

Minimum Program Qualifications

To qualify for the UTC Re-Empower Program, candidates should:

  • Currently be on a voluntary break of at least two years or more
  • Have a minimum of five years of professional work experience
  • Have an interest in returning to work in a full-time position
  • Have an ability to attend the Re-Empower Program Orientation at UTC Headquarters in Farmington, CT on March 12 - 14, 2018

Key Qualifications:

  • Strong project management skills
  • Cross functional team lead experience
  • Knowledge of industry, agency, and regulatory requirements of residential gas furnaces
  • Understanding of Industry-wide accepted system engineering tools
  • Experience in the development of residential gas furnace (or related appliance) combustion and related combustion hardware
  • Ability to write technical, reliability, and quality specifications
  • Experience working in a team environment with support groups (product quality, testing, marketing)
  • Intermediate level skills with Microsoft Suite (word, excel, power point and project)
  • Organized with strong attention to detail, while managing multiple priorities
  • Proven ability to implement continuous improvements and standardize processes
  • Capacity to self-direct/motivate with a vision toward overall product goals
  • Heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and mechanical and thermal fatigue knowledge and experience.
  • Model Based Development (MBD) experience is preferred

Education:
  • Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 7 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
