Position Description:
As the leader of the Image Storage Engineering team, you will help deliver a high availability, 24/7 imaging storage service.  Our service stores and retrieves expense receipt/invoice images for over 30 million customers with year-over-year growth exceeding 50%.  Our platform is a key component of Concur’s product delivery.

In the first 12 months you will:
• Deliver a great platform:  Work with the Product Owner to create product strategy and to prioritize development work in line with business needs. Accountable for team performance and for delivering the technical and functional product roadmaps.
• Transforming our legacy platform into a micro service based architecture hosted within AWS: Moving our product into a more modular/flexible solution that’s hosted in the AWS cloud.
• Owning the software lifecycle from design to delivery:  We run small teams with a purpose, so that our engineers have full visibility and ownership of the project, including full-stack development.  This requires well-rounded leaders knowledgeable about design, development, testing, Scrum, Configuration Management, DevOps, infrastructure, incident/production support, etc.
• Be a force for change:  We are transforming our platforms as well as our processes.  We need leaders who drive change in order to improve the delivery and quality of our services.
• Manage a team of 5-10 SDE’s: You’ll need to hire, develop and reward great people who are effective in our fast paced Agile environment.  
• Owning the Imaging Platform 24/7:  Our teams are end-to-end owners of their platform including all operation facets such as deployments, production incidents/optimizations, and customer support.  Teams need to find a balance between developing features and operating the platform.

In order to accomplish this you will need:
• Programming languages: Have proficiency with Java or other object oriented programming languages such as C#, C++, etc.  
• Micro services:  Have proficiency with micro services using REST, and Java and open source frameworks (i.e. Spring, etc).
• Storing/retrieving data:  Have proficiency with database technologies, including strong knowledge of SQL, NoSQL and file storage.
• Event Processing:  Ideally understand event processing/messaging, i.e. Kafka/Rabbit MQ, as well as logging, auditing and metrics, i.e. ElasticSearch/Kibana, Hadoop/Tableau.
• Agile Development and DevOps:  Have a solid grounding in Agile Development, i.e. Scrum, Continuous Integration and DevOps concepts (automated deployments, monitoring/alerting, etc.).   
• Infrastructure:  Ideally understand Data Center Infrastructure As A Service (AWS) technologies to help the team migrate to AWS.
• As a Collaborator:  Be a team player be highly collaborative, i.e. an effective communicator willing to promote ideas but able to listen to/work with others.
• As an Individual:  Have a result driven personality, high enthusiasm, energy, confidence and most importantly have a sense of humor.
• As a Leader:  Take ownership for results, have a bias for action, insist on the highest standards, and deliver results.  But balance all of that with creating/developing/retaining a great team.

 

Experience:  

10+ years of relevant industry/academia experience in software development and full product lifecycles.  5+ years’ experience managing software engineering teams.  Should have a BSCS, BSEE, or equivalent years of work experience.  Ability to pass a background check.
