We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer with a design background in one or more of the following areas:

  • Robotics
  • Power systems
  • Custom circuit design
  • RF-based navigation, and/or RF communications systems

You will collaborate with our team of scientists and engineers to solve difficult technical challenges in various operational domains. You will help identify customers’ specific requirements and design/develop novel solutions to meet them. You will support design evaluations and system testing, and document your results in clearly written reports. You will also contribute to the generation of innovative proposals for future R&D projects.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:   

  • Design, build, integrate and test electrical/electronic hardware in the following areas:
    • Custom circuits to support power systems, sensors, and other electronics
    • Prototype power control systems on robotic platforms including battery based systems with multiple charging options (solar, inductive, etc)
    • Motor/motion control
    • RF-based navigation, positioning, and timing (PNT) systems, such as GNSS/GPS
    • RF communications systems
  • Document electrical system design, operating procedures, and safety procedures
  • Lead engineering design teams in planning and implementation activities
  • Conduct technical discussions with customers
  • Work with physicists, computer vision scientists, software engineers and electromechanical engineers to develop, test, and evaluate novel sensor packages and command & control systems for use in land, sea, air and space domains
  • Work with cognitive scientists to develop, test, and evaluate user interfaces and displays

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:   

  • BS/MS degree in Electrical, Computer, or Electronics Engineering
  • Experience with high voltage equipment, EMI shielding/grounding, and noise mitigation
  • Experience laying out custom printed circuit boards and familiarity with circuit design software and microprocessors
  • Experience with analog and digital RF design
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative given general or developmental requirements and achieve results within time and cost budgets
  • Effective problem solving and debugging skills
  • Strong verbal skills (in English) to support interaction with customers and presentations at briefings
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear, concise, and grammatically correct written materials (in English) to support proposals and reports
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel)
  • Strong fit with Company goals and values (i.e., work ethic, attitude, interest in work) and able to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • U.S. citizen, currently holding or eligible for a security clearance
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time between the Corporate office in Cambridge, MA and testing facility in Wakefield, RI

Nice to have:

  • Experience with:
    • Working on and operating robotics (ground, air and/or marine)
    • Experience working in the marine environment
    • Commercial design simulation tools
    • Testing and debugging RF analog, digital, and mixed-signal modules in a lab environment
    • Layout, fabrication, and testing RF analog, digital, and mixed-signal modules in a laboratory environment
    • Systems engineering
  • Project leadership/engineering management experience in Government or commercial R&D organizations
  • Ability to contribute conceptual ideas in support of R&D business capture
  • Active security clearance
  • Experience with software languages and platforms such as C++, R, JAVA, or MATLAB
