We have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Systems Engineer for our Intrusion & Monitoring Solutions business in Costa Mesa, CA. The successful candidate will possess strong technical skills to prioritize and coordinate product releases as identified by the business. The candidate must be able to operate in a matrix organization, working with product managers to define specifications and articulating them into program objectives. Tactically, the successful candidate will be responsible for collaborating with the internal team and/or partners to design, test, qualify, and release products and features to our customers while maintaining schedule, performance, and budget objectives.


  • Understand and interpret choices and tradeoffs for local market requirements
  • Oversee the development and integration of system components to meet project objectives
  • Defines product technical capabilities and requirements
  • Technical bridge between PM and design teams
  • Be the subject matter expert for Intrusion and Monitoring products and solutions
  • Interact with product management, marketing, sales, and customers to identify and distill Intrusion Security requirements into specifications for successful products releases
  • Derive system requirements to determine acceptable functional and performance metrics accounting for both customer and manufacturing needs
  • Leverage existing and seek out new development partners and/or leverage Other Vendor Products (OVPs) as needed to meet project needs
  • Build a functional understanding of global regulatory requirements for the Security industry, including RF/Wireless standards
  • Participate in and contribute to trade-off analyses leading to the selection of technologies and design solutions which account for both current and future needs
  • Exhibit a flexible disposition by contributions to various engineering tasks and projects in supporting the team including new product development, sustaining engineering, value engineering, documentation, and troubleshooting
  • Design, integrate, document, lead management reviews and release to production a variety of intrusion and monitoring products (control devices, sensors, mobile communication devices, etc.)
  • Act as a trusted expert in the Systems Engineering and robust design discipline for the broader product development organization
  • Perform technology scouting; identify new technologies and trends and bring them in house or partner with experts to demonstrate feasibility in Security products
  • Drive process improvements, share industry best practices, and help to develop the Systems Engineering discipline in the organization

  • Strong firmware and software development background including design, specification, documentation and quality assurance
  • Demonstrated experience with system design on multiple embedded system product developments
  • Working knowledge of hardware, firmware, software, wired/wireless communications and systems integration
  • Must be able to translate high level requirements into detail technical requirements both functional (internal/external VOCs)and non-functional (Safety, Security, Reliability)
  • Experience with electrical design processes and driving trade off decisions on key components like microcontrollers, radios, etc.
  • Good communications, interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Proven ability to coordinate with team members in order to deliver quality products that meet customer requirements
  • Excellent analytical skills; Proven ability to break down complex system requirements into simpler subsystems
  • Familiarity with System Engineering tools such as Innoslate
  • Detail oriented with sound organizational skills
  • Must be able to perform analysis, troubleshooting and systems designs
  • Must be self-motivated and results-oriented

  • Committed to continually enhance ones knowledge and application of the principles of the Systems Engineering discipline

  • Able to manage a variety of customer situations
  • Strong familiarity with System definition, configuration management and defect management tools
  • Ability to establish traceability between market requirements, product requirements and quality assurance
  • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Windows-based operating systems and elements

  • Bachelor's degree with 6–10+ years’ experience
  • Master's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering with 4–7+ years’ experience
  • Formal Training in Systems Engineering
