UTC Climate, Controls, & Security (CCS) division is seeking a highly motivated and results driven software developer to join its Software Systems group. The successful candidate will serve as a vital member of a software development team Electronic Catalog Programs (E-Cat) for its commercial building HVAC (heating, ventilating and air conditioning) systems. The candidate will be responsible both for software development and project management.

This role is a part of UTC Re-Empower Program which helps support talented and committed professionals as they rebuild their capabilities, enhance leadership skills, and continue their professional journey. Over the course of this 16-week program, experienced professionals will gain paid, on-the-job experience, have an opportunity to participate in sessions with leadership, develop personalized plans for success and receive coaching to guide their return to work experience. Upon completion of the program, based on performance, Re-Empower participants may have an opportunity to convert to a full-time role.

Cohort II of the UTC Re-Empower Program will run from March 12, 2018 – June 29, 2018.

The position requires interaction with management, support staff, customers, product marketing, and engineering staff to establish project requirements, to develop project plans and to establish work priorities. The position will include direct development of software as well as managing contracted resources that are developing software. The candidate must have a strong software design and development background. Duties include design, prototyping, development, testing and maintenance of source code. Candidates must also have experience with project management principles to effectively organize projects, estimate project costs, monitor project progress, track software quality issues, and perform root cause analysis.

The Software Systems group is responsible for developing and maintaining software-based tools to drive Carrier equipment and systems sales strategy. This includes ownership of Carrier Electronic Catalog Programs (E-CAT) and E20-II/HAP system design tools that are employed by Carrier sales engineers and outside consultants to develop sustainable HVAC system solutions. This position is based in Syracuse, NY but the candidate will interact with other Carrier team members based in Charlotte, USA, Montluel, France and Shanghai, China.


  • Gather software requirements from stakeholders and software users
  • Develop software designs and specifications
  • Design, prototype, construct, test and maintain software source code
  • Manage software development projects
  • Assist support staff in troubleshooting customer software problems

Qualification: Minimum Program Qualifications
To qualify for the UTC Re-Empower Program, candidates should:

  • Currently be on a voluntary break of at least two years or more
  • Have a minimum of five years of professional work experience
  • Have an interest in returning to work in a full-time position
  • Have an ability to attend the Re-Empower Program Orientation at UTC Headquarters in Farmington, CT on March 12 - 14, 2018

Basic Qualifications

  • 3 to 5+ years experience in software development
  • Proficient with software design and development principles and processes
  • Ability to interpret and learn existing computer source code
  • Highly motivated, self-directed and able to work independently
  • Able to effectively manage multiple projects concurrently to meet broad department goals
  • Able to adapt schedule and priorities to meet changing project requirements
  • Proficient with C#, ASP,Net, SQL Server and a familiarity with Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0
  • Proficient with database concepts (tables, fields, data types), design principles, and manipulation through software (via SQL commands)
  • Proficient with XML and JSON
  • Proven ability to work effectively in team environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with mobile computing applications is a plus

  • Candidates should possess a BS in Computer Engineering or Computer Science with at least 3-5 years experience
  • Must be fluent in English (both written and spoken) with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to lead and work as a part of a multidisciplinary team in a global environment is required
