The Thermal Management Group at United Technologies Research Center is seeking a candidate to provide expertise in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and thermal management systems modeling and analysis. The position requires strong analytical skills, physics-based modeling and optimization experience, programming capability (experience with MATLAB or Dymola is a plus), and an intuition for determining the appropriate level of modeling fidelity for a given problem.

These skills will be employed across a broad range of applications including aircraft thermal management and integrated building systems with a focus on developing innovative solutions for the efficient management of heat and power. Activities may include creation and development of thermal management concepts, thermodynamic cycle analysis, and preliminary system and component design and optimization.

The candidate is expected to interact with a wide group of researchers in inter-disciplinary teams and will be expected to work with other research engineers in generating proposals to UTC business units and government funding agencies.


Qualification: MS in aerospace or mechanical engineering with 5-7 years of industrial research experience. The preferred candidate will have a Ph.D. in aerospace, or mechanical engineering with at least 3 years of industrial research experience. The individual will have: A proven record of working effectively with cross functional teams. Be a self-starter and able to adapt to changes in a fast paced environment. Expert thermodynamic cycle and heat transfer analytical skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. This job requires US person status.
