MITRE seeks a Technical Director who will lead the Systems Engineering Technical Center (T880) and provide direction across a range of technical, business, and human resources activities. This division is the corporate steward for a set of technical capabilities that include agile SE, model-based engineering, human-machine teaming, systems thinking, and systems security engineering.  The division has approximately 370 employees in McLean, Bedford, and several customer sites and supports a diverse work program that covers nearly every portfolio across both national security and public sectors.  The Technical Director is responsible for building an integrated team and capabilities, successfully applying these capabilities to help achieve sponsor and mission outcomes, and providing strategic direction on future investments in Systems Engineering. Key to this position is implementation of technical quality processes, portfolio/program engagement, and technical career paths.


Additional core responsibilities include strategic planning, work program execution and shaping, workforce development, recruiting future talent, engaging with external technical community, managing operations, and serving as direct supervisor to Department Heads and Division staff.  The successful candidate will have demonstrated Systems Engineering expertise and stature in the external systems engineering community.  The candidate will also have a track record of innovating and evolving modern practices of Systems Engineering across a large enterprise.






Required Qualifications:

  • Experience leading a large division with a significant number of employees and highly technical work program.

  • Technical depth in at least one of the divisions core capabilities, demonstrated through both internal work program impact as well as external technical contributions.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and shape a technical work program through collaborative and effective partnership with portfolios, program divisions, and other technical centers.

  • Ability to implement change initiatives that increase organizational effectiveness and employee engagement

Preferred Qualifications

Technical Directors must demonstrate the highest levels of technical, management and business development skills. They must be expert in the technologies their divisions are engaged in and must have in-depth understanding of their customer's applications as well as how MITRE can best support the customers' critical needs.  Prior leadership experience across both program/portfolio and technical center organizations is preferred.
