Job Description:

Apply welding techniques to fabricate and assemble complex precision mechanical devices and structures.  Welded materials will include aluminum, carbon steel, and stainless steel alloys.  Must be able to interpret mechanical fabrication drawings and specifications.

In addition to welding equipment, the job will require using hand tools, saws, milling machines, lathes, metal brakes, drills, and other portable electric and pneumatic power tools.

Knowledge of shop safety procedures and effective communications skills are required.  Will interact daily with engineers and technicians.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Degrees required for this job:  High School Diploma or GED Certificate
  • Degrees preferred:  Technical Diploma or Associate Degree
  • Years of experience required for this job:  At least five years welding job experience
  • Certifications or licenses preferred:  State or AWS Certification in MIG and TIG welding, or additional welding certifications

Additional Requirements:

  • US Citizenship
  • DoD Secret Clearance is preferred;  Ability to achieve a Secret security clearance is required

Other Variables:

Work environment involves exposure to potentially hazardous materials and situations requiring adherence to strict safety procedures.  May be exposed to fumes, dust, hot surfaces, noise, rotating machinery, poor lighting, and live electrical parts and wiring.  Materials and structural weldments may weigh up to several tons, which will be lifted and positioned with cranes, forklifts, and hydraulic actuators.  Requires manually lifting objects up to 75 pounds and standing for extended periods of time.
