The Senior Test Manager will represent the IS Testing Centre of Excellence in the US, reporting into the Test Capability Lead in the CoE and the Portfolio lead for End User Computing in the Infrastructure portfolio. The role is full-time, on-site and based in Hicksville, US with potential for travel to other US and potentially UK sites as required.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to): Ensure that the processes and standards defined by the TCoE are adhered to in the US. Attend US estimating service sessions, providing testing expertise and leadership Seek and engage in promotional activities for the team, furthering the understanding of testing and the TCoE in the US, for example, town halls, PM Community of Practice, seek opportunities for delivering test automation on projects (Note: Odin Axe is National Grid’s strategic tool for automation) Engage in process improvement activities as identified by the TCoE, the Infrastructure portfolio and wider National Grid and Identify improvements to the National Grid Test Framework (the organisation level Test Strategy) Gather metrics on performance of testing across projects and present to key stakeholders. Manage US test resources on a day-to-day basis, including contractor renewals and recommendations, interviewing potential candidates, onboarding and training. Be an escalation point for all matters related to testing and quality assurance and operate as a primary point of contact for testing in the US, escalating to the Test Capability Lead as required. Obtain quarterly customer service surveys from projects in the US where TCoE is engaged and actively seek feedback regularly with PMs where TCoE are engaged. Engage with Portfolio Delivery Managers and PM’s for all projects to determine the test effort required. Run the recruitment efforts for US Test Managers and analysts as required, including preparing role descriptions and interviewing. Ensure Microsoft Visual Studio Team Services (VSTS) as National Grid’s strategic tool, is considered as the primary option for projects to manage requirements, tests and defects, possibly extending to source code management, build and release management. Full responsibility for the strategizing, planning, management and co-ordination of all testing activities within complex IT projects and evaluating risk potential during all stages of development, working to the Solution Delivery Framework (SDF) at all times. Working closely with the Business and Technical design leads to establish appropriate test scenarios to achieve the Design target quality objectives. Take a leading role in the definition of strategies to ensure the most effective and efficient functional and non-functional testing is carried out, including the use of specialised testing tools and techniques by collaborating with end users and project teams, including suppliers to define the test strategy. Help to set priorities that balance ‘desirable’ against ‘practical’ testing strategies. Manage and plan individual test phases and produce or assure phase test plans and exit reports depending on where the responsibility for the test phase lies (National Grid/ Supplier), assist business users with UAT planning and execution, wrapping testing processes around UAT. Review and assure output from suppliers. Ensure suppliers are aware of, and follow, the National Grid best practice test processes Defining, agreeing and executing Test witnessing, if required. Liaise with Programme / Project managers to manage expectations for the testing stages of projects. Agree quality criteria and corrective action Ensure that traceability exists between requirements, tests and results for each run and defects and that a suitable process is in place to handle the effect on testing of changes in requirements. Assess team size and capability. Identify any gaps and should further resource be required, ensure that it is justified and update the Senior Project Manager on any cost impacts/changes. Define defect management and test reporting procedures appropriate to the project, including weekly test progress reporting to include risks and issues. Manage the defect triage process. Obtain formal sign-off approvals for test phase completion and store these in the project’s SharePoint site. Assist with scoping non-functional scoping and operational acceptance testing (OAT) test phases, incorporating various tests such as backup and recovery, security, high availability, resilience, site failover, disaster recovery and performance. Work closely with Service Transition and Solution Architects. Review deployment plans. Facilitate test planning workshops with all relevant stakeholders Manage resolution of any escalations relating to tests and test quality and escalate any issue that cannot be resolved with the Test Manager’s remit. Highlight and drive risks, issues, dependencies and assumptions forward from identification through to resolution
Knowledge & Experience Required: At least 5 years Test Management in multiple roles within an outsourced supplier environment, including functional and non-functional testing in Waterfall and Agile environments. Experience working with infrastructure projects Experience of large corporate international environments Experience of working with large numbers of business users in multiple locations Desired Skills: ISEB/ ISQTB Previous experience working with Nationalgrid, DXC/ CSC and Verizon Knowledge of Microsoft Visual Studio Team Services, or equivalent ALM toolset.
