A Ph.D. degree (or advanced to candidacy) is required in the area of Engineering or a related discipline at the time of application.

Further, they provide university and public service in addition to educational leadership beyond the campus and contributions to instruction-related activities.

Candidates should demonstrate innovative teaching methodologies, potential to teach core and advanced lecture and/or laboratory courses in mechanical and/or aerospace engineering, and be highly motivated to improve the undergraduate student experience. The required job duties include teaching and mentoring of university students, curriculum development, accreditation, service activities, supervising undergraduate research, and mentoring undergraduate teams in their professional activities (e.g. Formula SAE, Design-Build-Fly and other student competitions).

A candidate for appointment, merit increase, or promotion in this series is judged by the following criteria:

• Teaching of truly exceptional quality that meets our long-term instructional needs

• Professional achievement and activity; an appointee in the L(P)SOE series is expected to maintain currency in the profession and pedagogy

• University and public service; Educational leadership in our programs and beyond the campus, plus substantial contributions to instruction-related, extra-curricular and outreach activities

Preferred candidates will have demonstrated accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion, such as increasing the access and success of underrepresented students or faculty in engineering. Candidates should have a desire to participate in the School's diversity initiatives (http://www.jacobsschool.ucsd.edu/diversity/).
