3D Animation and Modeling Researcher - ICL

Job Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute Information and Communications Laboratory (ICL) is seeking a motivated and dynamic 3D animator. The candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary team including Socio-Technical Systems, Healthcare, Industrial Design, VR/AR development, Human Factors Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, and Data Analytics. Eligible candidates should have a good knowledge of Virtual Reality design best practices, a good knowledge of the Unity environment, and documented experience with 3D modeling. Candidates should have advanced written communication skills as well as have experience working with a dynamic and multidisciplinary team. Moreover, candidates will be responsible for carrying out research-related tasks, including rendering assets related to gameplay, rigging, and animation.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


Designs, models, rigs, and animates characters and objects in Blender
Works with UI and Technical teams to produce models consistent with extant look and feel
Considers the integration requirements for game engine applications
Maintains design and model archives
Presents character and object concepts, models, and animations to the project and technical teams for feedback

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Associate I

  •  A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace, Computer Science, Physics.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Experience with model decimation techniques
Ability to create 3D assets from start to finish that are optimized for the Unity engine
Experience developing 3D models and animations for integration with games
Solid understanding of humanoid body mechanics and physics
Full understanding of and experience with retargeting of humanoid animations in Unity
A strong portfolio demonstrating capability in crafting reasonably realistic modeling and animation of human characters
Proficient in software such as Maya, Blender, or 3DS Max

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree, or Master's Degree in Progress
  • Proficient in Blender
  • Previous work designing for Virtual Reality
  • Experience working with Serious Games or Research teams
  • Knowledge of Virtual Reality best practices
  • Motivation to contribute to impactful solutions

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
