We have an opening for an accelerator staff scientist to work within a team developing and expanding accelerator-supported science endeavors in nuclear physics, materials science, radiochemistry, and national security.You will perform accelerator configuration, assembly, maintenance, and operations across a suite of electron- and ion-based accelerators., becoming highly knowledgeable of the radio frequency (RF) accelerator systems and their associated supporting equipment, building support infrastructure for accelerator operations, and participating in the design of proposed experiments. This position is in the Nuclear and Particle Physics group of the Nuclear and Chemical Sciences Division.


Essential Duties
-Perform moderately complex to complex mechanical assembly of high vacuum beamline systems, including leak checking and repair..
- Perform installation of beamline components including magnets, beamline diagnostics, stands, and shielding.
-Perform electrical wiring of components and troubleshooting of systems.
-Maintain and improve programmatic infrastructure of the facility that enable operations, including interlock, run permit, radiation monitoring, and exclusion systems.
-Functionting as part of a team, collaborate with scientists, engineers and technicians in the assembly, commissioning, operations and maintenance work on RF accelerator systems currently being installed and operated in B194.
-Ensure safe operation of accelerator systems within the Authorization Basis of the Facility.
-Maintain detailed knowledge of the formal operations envelop.
-Provide input into new proposals.
- Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
- BS in engineering, physics, or related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Experience and comprehensive knowledge of applied physics, experimental hardware configuration, and experimental operation.
- Broad experience in at least two of the following: high vacuum systems, high voltage equipment, signal processing, complex mechanical design and assembly, LabView programming, electronics technology, cooling water systems, beamline alignment.
- Proficient verbal, written and interpersonal skills necessary to effectively work in a collaborative research environment and communicate,document and present research results.
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex tasks by interacting independently with professionals in the execution of responsibilities.
- Experience in writing reports and publications.
- Interest in contributing to advancing nuclear science using particle accelerators.

Note: This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
