Active Ceramics Production Process Technologist (Experienced)

We are seeking an Engineering Support Technologist (Active Ceramics (AC) Production Process Technologist). If selected, you will be part of a manufacturing team that is responsible for processes and equipment used to manufacture AC components. As the primary technical interface to the production operators, you will be expected to work closely with the broader team to ensure a detailed technical understanding of assigned processes. In addition, you will work hands on in powder processing, ensuring on time delivery of product that meets all requirements.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Initially diagnose any process nonconformances, monitor process health, identify ways to increase yields or decrease span times, and mistake-proof the processes. As issues are identified, you will recommend and implement corrective or preventive actions.
+ Have responsibility for maintaining written work instructions and to ensure operators are accurately trained.
+ As manufacturing demands permit, you will be expected to seek out and pursue opportunities for continuous improvement.


+ Bachelor's degree in Ceramic Engineering, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical field or equivalent relevant experience.
+ Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q Clearance


+ Current/Active DOE Q Clearance
+ Willing to work hands on in a fast-paced, schedule driven, rigorous production environment
+ Experience in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities
+ Experience/course work with ceramic materials and powder processing
+ Experience solving problems and providing technical support for machining/grinding equipment used to manufacture ceramic components
+ Communication skills with an ability to work in a diverse team environment and collaborate to solve problems
+ Demonstrated ability to monitor process health and conduct problem solving analyses
+ Strong technical communications skills, both verbally and written via Microsoft Office; experience creating work instructions. operating procedures, or equivalent
+ Experience with process improvement including a Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification
+ Commitment to a culture of safety and security
+ Experience transitioning products and equipment from conceptual design and development to full production

Active Ceramics Manufacturing (2568-1) at Sandia National Laboratories manufactures ceramic elements for the Nuclear Security Enterprise. Our production processes range from chemical synthesis of powders, powder processing, billet formation, machining, component assembly, testing, and metrology.
