Job Description

GTRI's Advanced Warfighting Technologies Division in the Advanced Concepts Laboratory seeks qualified candidates for the position of Advanced Warfighting Technologies Mechanical Integration Engineer. The role of this position is to apply technical skills to support the development and assessment of unmanned systems, sensors, and other prototype systems. Expected duties include but are not limited to mechanical systems design, fabrication, and integration.

Additionally, hardware and software integration, modeling and simulation, research and evaluation of candidate solutions, and development of concepts of employment can be expected. Qualified candidates will have experience in mechanical design tools (e.g. SolidWorks), hardware/software integration, modeling and simulation tools, and rapid prototyping.

The Advanced Warfighting Technologies Division provides world-class, forward-looking thought leadership and turn-key, best-of-class warfighting technologies focused on countering weapons of mass destruction (CWMD) and changing the future of ground maneuver warfare for U.S. Government and other sponsors.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant field of study.

Research Engineer II

  • A Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant field of study.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's degree program relevant to this position will be considered. Candidate must have a graduation date of no later than May 2021.
  • Experience with mechanical design tools (e.g. SolidWorks), hardware/software integration, modeling and simulation tools, and rapid prototyping.
  • Candidate must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Must be able and willing to travel in support of field test events
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Top Secret Clearance
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks
  • Experience in the development of unmanned systems
  • Experience in additive manufacturing
  • Able to derive customer requirements and create representative specifications
  • Ability to write and execute test plans
  • Experience creating schedules and tracking budgets

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Ability to obtain Top Secret Clearance upon hire
