Air and Missile Defense Software Systems Engineer-ASL

Job Description

The Applied Systems Laboratory (ASL) of the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is seeking two Software Systems Engineers with Air and Missile Defense experience for a full-time research faculty position. These positions are embedded at the Program Executive Office for Missiles and Space (PEO M&S) and support government acquisition of Integrated Air and Missile Defense capabilities.

Located in Huntsville, Alabama, ASL conducts world-class applied research in avionics modeling, simulation, analysis, testing, evaluation, and software development in support of the government sponsors.

Job Duties:

The successful candidate will be responsible for activities including but not limited to:

  • Participate in the development, analysis, and evaluation of Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) concepts, requirements, architecture, component designs, and implementation
  • Participate in technical working groups and provide leadership and subject matter expertise to support development and documentation of IAMD component architectures, capabilities, known issues, and limitations and recommend solutions or alternatives to close gaps
  • Participate in the definition and evaluation of candidate system software architectures, applications, components, algorithms, and data interface transport methods/schemas
  • Support integration activities
  • Travel to support IAMD tests and exercises

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a relevant branch of engineering and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a relevant branch of engineering and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a relevant branch of engineering.

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a relevant branch of engineering and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a relevant branch of engineering and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a relevant branch of engineering and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Integrated Air and Missile Defense experience
  • Experience in system and software requirements analysis
  • Experience with system and software integration
  • Experience with Agile software development and test methodologies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to work well in a team environment with other contractors, government civilian, and military personnel
  • Strong background in all aspects of the SW engineering lifecycle
  • Experience with code analysis of Java, C++ programming languages
  • Working knowledge of Linux-based OS, e.g., Red Hat Linux, Ubuntu
  • Experience in Model-Based Systems Engineering Tools, especially MagicDraw and IBM Rhapsody
  • Experience with requirements development and tracking tools, e.g., IBM DOORS
  • Knowledge of OMG Data Distribution Services (DDS) standard
