We are seeking an experienced R&D S&E Electrical Engineer to support the Aircraft Compatibility Team which is responsible establishing and maintaining a technical basis for the certification of nuclear weapons with Air Force aircraft.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Plan, execute, analyze, and report on electrical aircraft/weapon ingerfaces through leading and guiding compatibility testing with US Air Force and NATO fighters and bombers.
+ Interface with NNSA and US Air Force customers/stakeholders
+ Occasional travel to support aircraft testing and associated meetings..

Required:

+ Bachelors and advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in relevant STEM discipline plus 2 years relevant experience; or bachelors degree in relevant STEM discipline plus 6 years relevant experience
+ Experience with MIL-STD-1553 communication
+ Education or experience with digital/analog data acquisition
+ US DOE L-level security clearance or DoD Secret Clearance

Desired:

+ DOE Q-level security clearance or DoD Top Secret
+ Experience leading technical projects
+ Weapons program experience at SNL or other DoD organizations
+ Software programming experience
+ Demonstrated communication skills including technical writing and presentations to large multiagency audiences.

Department Description:

The Aircraft Compatibility organizations primary mission is to conduct assessments of stockpile nuclear weapons -- specifically bombs and cruise missile warheads and to maintain compatibility of the weapons with their respective aircraft. The organization works with military engineering and operational organizations, aircraft contractors, and Sandias weapon systems departments in the design of the aircraft/weapon interface. Department members oversee the laboratory and flight testing of their assigned weapon system to include evaluating data, investigating anomalies and reporting results. Personnel use a variety of engineering tools that represent electrical and functional characteristics of a war reserve weapon. The project is a continuing process of certification and recertification of the aircraft nuclear weapon system compatibility.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) L security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
