Job CodeJR0217418
Are you an expert at
specifying systems for purchase, receiving and landing those
systems in labs, provisioning those systems with group-specific
BIOS/OS/SW Stack setups, and supporting the ongoing security and
maintenance of those systems, with automation to support the entire
process? Do you zip past others who do similar work manually by
creating the scripts and tools and configurations, all under SW
version control of course, exemplifying Configuration-as-code
practices, that allow you to push a button or task lab assistants
to do any manual work necessary? Do you have the deep System
Administration knowledge necessary to properly integrate your labs
into IT-maintained networking environments based on MS AZAD while
supporting Linux domain and MacOS best practices, all backed by on
premise SAN/NAS and Cloud-based storage solutions? When customers
come to you w/needs, are you able to guide them to standalone HW,
VMs, and/or containers as appropriate for a given situation, and
support their decisions with your customized bespoke solutions that
not only exhibit today's best practices, but which are also
well-documented and ready to migrate to the next "best known
method" when it is found and we have to standardize on those
yet-unknown solutions? If so ... you might be who we are looking
for.
Please realize if you're the type that has found "the
one true solution", having produced a bespoke infrastructure that
only you understand, and which will never have to migrate to
another not-yet-known solution because that's the way I've always
done it, and that's the way it will always be done ... you might as
well move on ... you're not the one we want.
We'll also
expect you to be a team player, recognizing that the line between
the lab support you provide and the DevOps infrastructure that runs
on that infrastructure is gray and fuzzy ... you'll frequently be
partnered w/folks working a little ways up the SW stack, setting up
Build and Test CI/CD, supporting developer process tools, and
following DevOps best
practices.
Qualifications

BS or MS degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or similar
Experience in scripting languages like Python or bash
Experience in CI-CD systems such as Jenkins, Buildbot, Team City, etc., with multiple vendors tools expertise an extra feather in your cap, especially for cloud-based systems
Experience in Windows, Linux and macOS configuration and administration.

Good English skills
Preferred
Qualifications:
Ability to understand and support pre-production hardware, with debugging skill such that you can distinguish HW flaws, not-yet-working OS, and driver best-known-configurations, or software stack mis-matches
Knowing when Containers are applicable, VMs can be used, and where standalone bare-metal systems are all that can work for many given situations; if you think one of these fits all situations, you've not seen the problems we're dealing with daily.
Experience in Docker, Kubernetes, Containers as a Service, Infrastructure as a Service
Experience in Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, and the ability to produce Configuration-as-Code that can be portable to another service if a better one is found down the road.
