Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is looking for a motivated engineer focused in theoretical power systems to drive forward innovation in a brand new team. The successful candidate will be working with cutting edge research for protection systems. We are open to any level of experience for this role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring for R&D in power systems, protection/automation system applications, and all related SEL products.
  • Help R&D engineers develop next generation SEL products through knowledge sharing, teaching and demonstrations.
  • Develops solutions to complex problems requiring the regular use of creativity, ingenuity, and experience.
  • Contributes to new product specifications and enhancements to products.
  • Participates and presents at SEL marketing and sales activities, industry technical meetings, and conferences.
  • Develop coursework and teach SEL University courses.
  • Regular contributor to internal white papers, application guides, notes, template guides, software tools, industry journals, SELU course material, and/or technical papers. Regularly sought after to review publications authored by others.
  • After product release, help customers apply the new products through visits, demonstrations, training courses and telephone contact.
  • Independently supports customers for all knowledge areas of their specialization field and can navigate through questions outside of specialization.
  • Sought-after contributor for internal product and process improvement ideas, discussions, and solutions.
  • Model and teach SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World-Class Manufacturing principles.
  • Understand. Create. Simplify.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Have a Professional Engineer license and/or Senior IEEE membership.
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent engineering degree).
  • Typically 5+ years of experience in power systems, industry practices, and protection/automation.
  • Able to apply extensive experience and analysis as a generalist and a specialist and define general approaches and specific solutions to technical problems.
  • Ability to write and speak English coherently.

Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of SEL products

Recognized as an expert instructor and frequently consulted for support by internal peers.

Recognized as well-respected with proven technical leadership skills.
