Job Description

GTRIs Co-operative Education (co-op) program offers you extensive opportunities to participate in diverse scientific and technological endeavors, use state of-the-art equipment and rapidly improve your technical and leadership skills. The program allows you to alternate three semesters of full-time work at GTRI with semesters of full-time school.

The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) seeks Co-op Students and Interns in the Applied Embedded Systems Division (AES) for the fall 2021 semester. AES predominantly focuses on the research, development, testing, and deployment of embedded electronic and electromechanical systems. These systems are used for electronic warfare, control, communications, avionics, entertainment, physiological monitoring, and other uses.

This broad range of research will provide a solid foundation for the student as a future software engineer. The student will work under the guidance of GTRI researchers performing research in one of the following areas:

Embedded software development for electronic warfare systems
Sensing and processing broad bands of the electromagnetic spectrum
Creating a complex electromagnetic environment used to test Aircraft Protection systems

Co-ops and Interns will perform one or more of the following activities:

Design, code, and debug of Windows or Embedded Software (SW) for aircraft protection systems and aircraft protection systems test applications
Conduct testing of Windows, Embedded, or Linux Systems software

Required Minimum Qualifications

Co-op

  • Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering¬†
  • 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Must be eligible to be approved by your college/university to participate in a co-op program and register for co-op credit with your university during work terms
  • Must be able to complete at least three full-time co-op terms (alternating three terms of full-time work at GTRI with semesters of full-time school) prior to graduation

Intern

  • Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering
  • 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to perform research independently
  • Ability to prioritize tasks while working on multiple projects
  • Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
  • Embedded software development
  • Experience in 1 or more programming languages (Example C, C#, Python)
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas to a non-technical audience

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
