Electrical and Computer Engineering


The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track position in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank. The anticipated start date is spring semester, January 2019. A doctorate in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a closely related field is required.


The ECE department is inviting outstanding applicants with expertise and proven record or demonstrated exceptional potential for leading vibrant externally funded scholarly research programs in areas including, but not limited to, wireless communications & mobile networking systems, cooperative and cognitive wireless communications, multiuser MIMO communications, body-area networks for healthcare monitoring, reliable communications for vehicular networks, wireless energy transfer, internet of things (IoT), wireless sensor networks, cyber and network security, communications for machine learning, deep learning and big data analysis. Candidates must have vision in defining their research plan in this rapidly evolving field. Candidates with exceptional active funded research projects may be considered at the Associate Professor level. The successful candidate is expected to secure and lead externally funded research and perform scholarly activities, deliver state-of-the-art undergraduate and graduate courses in electrical and computer engineering, with an interest or expertise in technology assisted or online teaching, advise undergraduate and graduate students, and engage in service activities as assigned.


The ECE department offers two ABET-accredited undergraduate degrees, a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a B.S. degree in Computer Engineering. The department also offers a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and is one of the founding members of the new campus professional Master of Engineering program. The ECE Department has research focuses in areas including but not limited to antenna and wireless communications, laser photonics and laser plasmas, non-thermal plasmas, robotics and autonomous systems, computer vision, machine learning, and cyber security.
