Applications are invited for a tenure-track position in Biomedical Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in Fall 2021. We are particularly interested in candidates with research expertise in neuro-engineering (including but not limited to bio/neuro-instrumentation, neural signal processing (AI and machine learning in particular), neuro-rehabilitation, neuromodulation, neuro-robotics, and/or neuro-interfacing. A PhD in biomedical engineering or closely related field is required at the time of appointment. The successful candidate will have the ability to teach and develop new undergraduate and graduate courses while conducting high-quality research in neural engineering.

The Department of Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering has 23 full-time faculty. Our BME faculty conduct research in; neural signal processing; neuro-instrumentation; neuro-modulation; wearable health systems; medical image and signal processing; cardiac electrophysiology and resuscitation; physiological modeling; and assistive technology. The Department offers programs leading to the BS, MS, and PhD degrees. The interdisciplinary nature of our Department will provide the new faculty member with opportunities to interact with a broad range of colleagues. A brand-new 195,000 square foot engineering building has recently been inaugurated and provides an excellent environment for interdisciplinary research collaborations.

The interdisciplinary nature of this position will provide the new faculty member with excellent opportunities to collaborate across departments such as: Computer Science and Statistics, Communicative Disorders, Kinesiology, Physical Therapy, Nursing, and Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The University of Rhode Island is a partner in the George and Anne Ryan Institute for Neuroscience (https://ryaninstitute.uri.edu/) and the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program (https://web.uri.edu/inp/) which recently started an undergraduate program (https://www.uri.edu/features/neuroscience/). Ongoing collaborations currently exist with research hospitals and industries in the Providence and Boston areas. Optional opportunities to teach courses in electrical engineering or computer engineering will be available.

The region offers excellent outdoor recreational activities, good public school systems, and ready access by car or public transportation to Providence, Boston, New Haven, and New York City metropolitan areas and airports.

The starting date is negotiable, and salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
