The David Crawford School of Engineering at Norwich University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering beginning July 2020.  The successful applicant will have primary expertise in solid mechanics, machine design, or dynamic systems and controls, with the ability to teach courses in the following subject areas: statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, machine design, kinematics of mechanisms and machine elements, computer aided design and analysis, mechanical measurements, and controls. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach a broad range of subject areas, who can develop and teach both lecture and laboratory courses, and can advise student design projects.

Responsibilities include teaching the theory and practice of mechanical engineering to undergraduate students, supervising student projects, advising students, serving on department, college, and university committees, enhancing laboratory facilities, or other related duties. Professional development including research and other creative achievement is expected, and resources are available to encourage participation in scholarly endeavors.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Education or closely related fields; with at least one degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Expertise in one or more of the following areas:  solid mechanics, machine design, or dynamic systems and controls.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, scholarship, and advising.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated effective teaching experience.
Hands-on experience in a laboratory environment.
Relevant industrial and practical experience.
Experience with applied research and development of industry contacts.
Professional registration.
