Overview:
This position will serve as Project Lead and Engineer-of-Record or as design engineer, depending on the project, and  be responsible for signing and stamping engineering reports, engineering design analysis and calculations, construction plans and specifications, and other technical documents, prepared by and under the direction of the incumbent, for water treatment plant facilities and pumping plant facilities capital improvement projects.  The position will also provide engineering support during construction.
Assigned projects will be multidisciplinary in nature and involve some of the following engineering disciplines:  civil, electrical, mechanical, instrumentation and controls, process.  Several projects will have an electrical engineering focus.
As Project Lead and Engineer-of-Record, the person will direct, oversee and participate in the work of professional engineering and technical staff and will be responsible for ensuring that work product and project deliverables meet quality requirements and adhere to professional codes, standards and District specifications. 
In addition, the position will be responsible for training and reviewing the work of lower level staff on engineering design, including water treatment and pumping plant processes and facilities design and is required to possess broad experience and knowledge of principles and practices in these areas.
For select projects, this position will also be responsible for selecting consultants, negotiating and managing consultant contracts, and completing review of consultant deliverables.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead, direct, oversee and participate in the work of professional electrical engineering and technical staff in the planning, design, and construction of water utility capital projects. Serve as project manager and Engineer-of-Record and sign and stamp engineering studies and evaluations, engineering reports, engineering design analysis and calculations, construction plans and specifications, and other technical documents prepared by and under the direction of incumbent. Ensure work quality and adherence to professional codes and standards, engineering principles and practices, and Valley Water specifications for work product prepared by and under the direction of incumbent.
  • Select consultants and negotiate consultant agreements/ contracts. Manage consultants. Provide technical review of consultant deliverables.
  • Train lower level engineering staff.
  • Represent Valley Water in meetings or presentations to the public, consultants, contractors, vendors, and local state and federal agencies.
