East Bay Municipal Utility District’s (EBMUD’s) Engineering and Construction Department is seeking an Associate Mechanical Engineer to perform a variety of professional mechanical engineering assignments in connection with the operation of a large municipal water supply and wastewater utility. Reporting to a Senior Engineer, Associate Mechanical Engineer is the registered professional engineer level position on the EBMUD engineering career ladder. The current opening is in the department’s Design Division with projects that include water treatment plants, distribution pumping plants, reservoirs, pressure regulators, flow control stations, building plumbing and HVAC, pipelines and hydropower plants.

The ideal candidate will have project engineering experience including planning, budgeting, scheduling, project development and control, interdisciplinary coordination and hands-on design (including CAD), selection and specification of process equipment related to water or wastewater treatment and distribution or other industries (such as petroleum or chemical) which use similar process equipment or facilities. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working in a multidisciplinary team environment and will demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.

The salary range is $9,779 per month increasing to $10,268, $10,781, $11,320, $11,886 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.

Requirements

  1. A bachelor's degree in a mechanical engineering curriculum which is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (formerly known as the Engineers' Council for Professional Development); or a California Engineer-in-Training Certificate.
  2. Two years of mechanical engineering employment at a level comparable to or higher than EBMUD’s Assistant Mechanical Engineer classification.
  3. A registration as a Professional Mechanical Engineer in the State of California.

 

Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Must possess physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the class, including sufficient physical agility to inspect job sites and equipment as required. Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
