Associate Professor, Term Tenure Track

The Department of Imaging Physics has an immediate opening for an outstanding scientist at the rank of Associate Professor (term tenure track) to develop an independent research program in any area related to biomedical imaging.  This includes but not limited to, the development of new imaging applications, instrumentation or computational approaches to image reconstruction, processing or analysis.  The successful candidate will:

  • Explore new ideas that seek to advance our ability to detect, visualize, characterize and monitor cancer.
  • Establish an independently funded research program in biomedical acoustic imaging.
  • Contribute manuscripts to high-impact, peer-reviewed journals.
  • Work in a highly interdisciplinary research environment with scientists and clinicians.
    • Lead, collaborate, and assist others in their research.  You are expected to share your knowledge, expertise, and skills in such efforts with other faculty and trainees.
    • Participate in the training and supervision of graduate students and post-doctoral research fellows.

Qualified candidates should hold a Ph.D. in physics, medical physics, electrical engineering, computer science or related fields.  Evidence of sustained, independent research creativity by award of extramural peer-reviewed funding is also required.  The position will be offered with commensurate laboratory space and startup resources.

The Department of Imaging Physics includes six other full-time research faculty, 10 tenure track clinical medical physics faculty and eight non-tenure track clinical medical physics faculty.  The department has outstanding infrastructure (computational resources, access to state-of-the art imaging instrumentation (clinical and pre-clinical) and the scientific environment is second to none.  Significant collaborative opportunities exist with faculty in Diagnostic Imaging, Radiation Oncology, Surgery, Medical Oncology, the Institute for Applied Cancer Science and at associated academic institutions – Rice University is across the street, the University of Houston is less than five miles away and we have organized activities with many University of Texas components including the flagship academic campus in Austin and our sister healthcare components in Houston and at UT Southwestern in Dallas.
