We have multiple openings for students to work with mentors in the Atmospheric, Earth, and Energy Division within the Physical and Life Sciences Directorate. We offer undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to engage in practical research experience to further their educational goals. Opportunities include completing research and working on projects within the atmospheric sciences.

Essential Duties
At the Undergraduate Level (Non-exempt):

- Work with scientists, engineers and geophysicists doing code development, verification, and validation, and analysis as it relates to atmospheric science.
- Under close supervision, participate in research in assigned area.
- Gather and analyze data and information in support of scientific research.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

At the Graduate and Recent Grad Level (Non-exempt):
- Under limited direction and supervision, conduct research in assigned area.
- Perform technical assignments of a basic degree of complexity and provide advanced technical support to scientist in scientific research and development projects.
- Present work through presentations and/or poster sessions.

Qualifications:
At the Undergraduate Level (Non-exempt):

- Must be a continuing college or university student in good standing at an accredited institution pursuing an undergraduate degree in geophysics, engineering or related field.
- Ability to apply basic engineering principles to solve technical problems.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to present and communicate concepts and ideas.
- Experience working with personal computers and familiarity with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work in a team environment.

At the Graduate and Recent Grad Level (Non-exempt):
- Must be a continuing college or university student in good standing at an accredited institution pursuing a graduate degree or a recent Bachelors or Masters graduate within one year.
- Demonstrated academic achievement in geophysics, engineering, or a related field.
- Experience applying basic engineering principles to solve technical problems.

Desired Qualifications
- GPA of 3.0 or above.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: None required.

However, if your assignment is longer than 179 days cumulatively within a calendar year, you must go through the Personal Identity Verification process. This process includes completing an online background investigation form and receiving approval of the background check. (This process does not apply to foreign nationals.)

Note: This is a Temporary Student Intern appointment. This assignment is for a full-time position during the summer academic break. Refer to the Scholar Program website at https://scholars.llnl.gov/ for additional student employment information.
