DESCRIPTION

 Do you like working with electronic hardware for cutting edge aerospace flight and emerging space applications? Looking for a position in the southeast?  SpaceWorks Enterprises is seeking a talented and experienced engineer to join our team, primarily supporting development of spacecraft and flight avionics. Specific tasks range from requirements setting to delivery of flight hardware with a heavy emphasis on analog and digital circuit design, schematic capture and board layout, manufacture, and functional test. The position is full-time and will be located at our facilities in Atlanta, GA. Due to the nature of our business, and the contracts we have with the US Government, we can only hire US Citizens. 


POSITION SUMMARY

The Avionics Engineer will work within a small team of engineers and embedded systems developers on the design, development, testing, and evaluation future spacecraft, small satellite, reentry capsules, and hypersonic flight systems. Specific emphasis will be placed on design, development, testing, and evaluation of electrical boards, power systems, and circuits. The successful candidate must be experienced in the hands-on design and integration of microcontrollers, printed circuit boards, power management and distribution, and RF subsystems. The position will span a broad range of product life cycle development from concept development to flight test of prototype hardware to manufacturing and commercial operations. Interactions with external suppliers and customers will require the engineer to have excellent written and verbal communications skills.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop circuits, circuit boards, and avionics assemblies including conceptualization and requirements definition, design, prototyping, verification, and release to production
  • Design and analysis of analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits for power, command and control, communication, and propulsion subsystems
  • Integration and validation of in-house and vendor avionics for ground and flight-test applications
  • Support development of mission assurance and safety initiatives as well as avionics development process improvements (FMECA and Root Cause Analysis)
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS/MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar
  • 5+ years of direct hands-on experience with circuit design, schematic capture and PCB layout, and verification testing
  • Direct experience with analog signal conditioning circuitry related to reading sensors including amplification and filtering
  • Direct experience with digital circuitry related to driving motors/solenoids, ARM microcontrollers, and Ethernet communications
  • Knowledgeable of SPI, Serial (UART, RS-232, 422, and 485), Ethernet, CAN, RTDs, Thermocouples, 4-20 mA and 0-5 VDC protocols
  • Experience with electronics test equipment (multimeter, oscilloscope, network analyzer, logic analyzer, etc...)
  • Understanding of EMI, bonding, and grounding architectures
  • Highly organized team player with strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Must be a US Citizen

 

ADDITIONAL DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Relevant work experience with high-reliability systems and high stress environments including launch vehicle, aircraft, UAV, or spacecraft
  • Familiarity with federal, military, and industry standards, requirements, and best practices for avionics design and test (MIL-810, SMC-S-016, RCC-319/324, MIL-461, NASA-8739)
