Captain/Shift Commander (Team Captain)

You will directly report to the Pro Force Manager and should have extensive PF experience with a 24/7/365 shift operations and operational support to include: Security Command & Control, Scheduling, Training, Logistics, and Process & Procedures. The candidate will also be an experienced proactive, team-oriented individual to guide and direct the day to day operational activities of the Protective Force Captains and Lieutenants.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Primarily oversees non-exempt and entry-level exempt members of the workforce within the team.
+ Coordinates subordinate employee recruitment, selection, training, work assignments, recognition and disciplinary actions, and contributes to performance assessments.
+ May contribute to the acquisition and development of staff resources, capabilities, and existing and future projects.
+ Applies specialized knowledge and experience to independently judge work quality, performance, and alignment of results with customer expectations.
+ Promotes excellence by managing and coordinating deliverables such as overall team goals, budgets, structures, schedules, and staffing requirements.
+ Maintains overall responsibility for directing and coordinating security incidents or emergencies at Sandia National Laboratories facilities.
+ At the direction of protective force management, develops and implements policies and procedures and monitors the effectiveness and performance of security forces, where related to the armed protection of the site.
+ Performs additional support duties, including logistics, supply, and training activities, as assigned by protective force management.
+ Implements compensatory measures for identified vulnerabilities in the system.
+ Conducts planning meetings and leads periodic training.
+ Performs conduct investigations and administers corrective actions.


+ Bachelors degree in relevant field of study, plus five (5) or more years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE Q- Level security clearance.


+ A minimum of 5 years' supervisory experience including conducting/training Special Operations activities such as SWAT, SRT, or Military operations.
+ Minimum of 10 years experience in law enforcement and/or Protective Force operations.
+ U.S. DOE Q clearance and possible SCI access with experience working and the ability to work with sensitive and/or classified information.
+ Based on the needs of the organization, this individual will need to maintain physical fitness requirements in order to be armed and operate assigned postings.
+ Possess detailed knowledge of DOE/NNSA Protective Force Operations to include individual and team tactical response.
+ Have all DOE NTC certifications related to Pro Force Training, FIC, BSPOT instructor certification, SPOIII IC etc.
+ Basic working knowledge of ES&H safety requirements.
+ Self-motivated, exercise initiative with minimal direction and or supervision, while working in a team-oriented environment.
+ Strong critical thinking and organizational skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication experience.
+ Familiarity with the following S&S disciplines: Protective Force Operations, Physical Security, Technical Security, Vulnerability Assessment, Performance Assurance.
+ Experience in project management with a proven ability to successfully manage and complete multiple ongoing programs and projects.
+ Expertise in development and implementation of operating policies and processes and procedures.
+ Willingness to work off-hours, weekends, holidays, and in hash or inclement weather conditions.

Department Description:

The Safeguards and Security Protective Force Department at Sandia National Laboratories, New Mexico (SNL/NM) is responsible for the Protection of resources, including Special Nuclear Material (SNM), Classified Matter, personnel, locks, keys and combination control.The Protective Force department is also responsible for emergency response assistance and basic law enforcement activities at SNL/NM.

Security Clearance:
