POSITION TITLE: Characterization and Test Development Engineer

 

JOB SUMMARY:

The characterization engineer works in the systems and test development group which is part of the R&D group. The characterization engineer supports R&D development efforts related to the characterization of SMI’s silicon MEMS pressure sensors. The successful candidate designs and debugs the hardware and software of SMI’s automated characterization systems and drives the continuous improvement of the systems’ accuracy and capabilities. The characterization engineer is also in charge of managing SMI’s engineering lab.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Design the hardware and software of SMI’s next generation of characterization systems.

  • Create the software to automatically control all equipment necessary for collecting and processing pressure sensor data.

  • Design automated and manual test setups for SMI’s high pressure sensors and ultra-low pressure sensors.

  • Develop bench test setups for various R&D related efforts to determine the performance of SMI’s pressure sensors.

  • Develop and maintain software for automated data analysis and report creation.

  • Plan, organize and execute the qualification tests of SMI’s next product generations with technician support.

  • Analyze test data and make recommendations with respect to new and existing specifications and datasheets.

  • Summarize and document test results in a customer-ready format.

           

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering/Computer Science.

  • 5 to 10 years of related working experience.

  • Strong debugging and problem solving skills.

  • Strong understanding of the functionality and design of electrical circuits and PCBs.

  • Hands-on experience with basic test equipment, including power supplies, oscilloscopes, DMMs and parameter analyzers.

  • Programming experience.

  • Data analysis skills (theoretical skills, as well as software skills).

  • Ability to draft, publish and present test results and conclusions in customer-ready reports.

    Desired:

  • MS degree in Electrical Engineering /Mechanical Engineering/Computer Science.

  • Experience with (automated) pressure sensor testing.

  • Experience with characterization, manufacturing or design of silicon sensors.

  • Experience with semiconductor, sensor and/or MEMS testing.

  • Programming experience with LabVIEW®.

  • Programming experience with C++ and VBA.

  • Experience with analog and digital signal processing.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
