The University of Strathclyde has created the Advanced Nuclear Research Centre which builds on its extensive track record of research and innovation in the field. The focus of the centre is infrastructure and through life management of nuclear installations, which aligns with the expertise in nuclear research at Strathclyde built up during a period of over 50 years. It integrates academic expertise across multiple Departments to deliver novel solutions, systems and technologies for its industry partners. This multi-disciplinary international programme of research is delivered in partnership with industry partners such as Babcock International, Bruce Power Canada, Doosan Babcock and EDF Energy UK. Our global industrial nuclear research customers have challenging and ambitious goals to improve the performance of their nuclear power plants and the through life costs of their systems.


The Chief Technical Officer will report to the ANRC Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for directing and leading the strategic development of the ANRC, promoting the Centre in relationships with industry and government bodies and planning the ANRC’s activities to ensure that the Centre continues to be a world leading provider of nuclear R&D, focused on industrial needs and commercial impact. You will work closely with academic colleagues, industrial members, funding bodies and University staff to ensure that business and research opportunities are identified and acted upon.


Degree qualified you will have extensive leadership experience within industry with strong existing links at a senior level and the skills required to build productive working relationships with industry, academics and key external bodies. You will be a strategic thinker with the ability to identify new opportunities for funding and possess the ability to lead large multi-disciplinary teams. You will have excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact with a range of stakeholders, across industry and academia. Your knowledge of the nuclear power industry will afford you an established network of contacts, and an appreciation of potential collaborators.


The successful applicant will be subject to the normal employment conditions such as proof of right to work and proof of qualifications but in addition, the successful applicant must be cleared through relevant security checks, prior to starting in role.
